Peppermint leaves are typically used fresh, as a culinary herb, and the flowers are dried and used to flavour sweets (candy) desserts, salads, and other foods. It is also broken down and used as an essential oi and is also widely used as a flavouring.

Peppermint is a decongestant, by shrinking swollen membranes in the nose and making it easier to breathe. It also helps loosen mucus that has collected in the lungs.
