Cayenne pepper has recently become one of my favorite kitchen spices. It is a very versatile spice, and capsaicin – an active ingredient – gives cayenne pepper its benefits.
The warm heat in cayenne pepper comes from capsaicin. Capsaicin helps relieve pain when applied topically and taken internally, and it can help reduce blood platelet thickness.
Ingesting cayenne pepper helps with digesting food as the capsaicin increases hydrochloric acid production, and increased saliva and stomach secretion, which is needed for a healthy digestion. With a healthy digestion, the body is able to absorb nutrients far easier. The benefits of cayenne are still being investigated by scientists, but early indications point to it having the ability to boots energy as well as lower stress related fatigue and depression.
