Anise (Pimpinella anisum) also called aniseed or rarely anix, is a flowering plant in the family Apiaceae native to the eastern Mediterranean region and Southwest Asia. It is a herbal, aromatic plant. The flavor and aroma of its seeds have similarities with some other species and herbs, such as star anise, fennel, licorice, and tarragon.
It grows as high as 40-70cm in full sun light and must be cultivated in rich soils and moderate humidity. The anise is a powerful plant and is known to aid in a variety of medical conditions.
The anise fruit has got a nice taste and is used in phytotherapy. As a ripe fruit or as juice, it is recommended for curing asthenia and for stimulating suckling mother’s lactation.
