Lobelia is given for asthma and other diseases of the lungs, such as chronic cough, emphysema, pneumonia, whooping cough, and treating nicotine withdrawal. Lobelia is also used for chronic bronchitis, as a diuretic, anti-inflammatory and to counteract toxins from venoms.
